Breckenridge Arts District

As far as things to do in Breckenridge go, this one is a unique classic that you can’t miss! That’s because the Arts District is the epicenter for artists and artisans to display their wares. It supports all types of artistry, from studios and galleries to performance spaces and restaurants. And the best thing about the Arts District is that it strives to make art accessible to everyone. This means that a multi-facility campus hosts workshops, exhibits, and tours. Also, it features artists-in-residence and a variety of other activities for locals and visitors alike.

The Arts Center focuses on art education and experience and provides a variety of classes across mediums. Have you ever wanted to study textiles, ceramics, metalwork, or painting? Well, you can do it here!

Breckenridge Backstage Theater

Here’s a fun fact: The Breckenridge Backstage Theater is the oldest year-round theater company in all of Colorado’s Western Slope. Because of Covid, this beloved center for the performing arts had to close its doors. So between mid-March, 2020 and July, 2021, a vital part of Breckenridge’s entertainment options was shuttered. Now back and better than ever, tickets are on sale for the current season. In addition to theatrical offerings, the BBT also offers classes for budding thespians.

Take a Mine Tour

Before Breckenridge was a ski town, it was a gold mining town. The promise of untold riches drove ambitious dreamers from thousands of miles away to this town in Colorado Rockies. And while the mines have long since closed down, you can still enjoy a slice of history with a tour. If you dare, go underground with a Country Boy Mine tour to see the conditions in which original miners worked.

If going underground gives you the creeps, how about trying your hand at panning for gold? Great fun for the whole family, Lomax Gulch offers a great day of fun and you even get to keep what you find!

And for the history buffs in the group, we haven’t forgotten you! In addition to a mine tour or gold panning, you can also choose a historic guided tour through town. You’ll see historic buildings, as well as simple log cabins and stately homes. Also, you’ll hear incredible stories of gold strikes, business booms, skiing pioneers, and even robberies!

Love a good ghost story? There’s a tour for you, too! Here, you’ll hear some of the town’s darker tales. Another 90-minute walking tour provides spooky stories of disappearances, kidnappings, and all manner of supernatural mayhem.

Whitewater Rafting/Ziplining

If you visit during the warmer month and enjoy adventurous sports, you’ll love whitewater rafting! Even novices can spend a day on the Arkansas River without fear, as the trips range from mild to wild. Not only will you experience a new and thrilling activity, professional  photographers are on hand to capture every moment!

Prefer to stay above, way above, the water? And have a birds’ eye view of the scenery? It sounds like a ziplining trip is in your future!
