Staying & Playing at Kentucky Lake
Outdoor adventures await in and around Kentucky Lake! With its large size, there is no shortage of places to explore both on the water’s surface and along the shoreline. Cool off on a hot summer day with a swim in the refreshing water or participate in one of the many other water activities that are popular in this area. Anglers will enjoy casting a line in the waters of Kentucky Lake, where you’ll find species such as largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill, and yellow and white bass. Moors Marina is located just minutes away, where you’ll find plenty of options for fishing and exploring the water. Boat rentals such as family pontoons, fishing pontoons, sport tritoons, fishing boats, waverunners, and water toys such as tubes, skis, wakeboards, and kneeboards are all available for rent from the marina. Select your activity of choice and enjoy a memorable day of family fun on Kentucky Lake!
While the water is certainly a highlight, you don’t have to be a water lover to enjoy the Kentucky Lake region. The lake’s shorelines are packed with trails and activities that can be enjoyed all while keeping your feet on dry land! Situated between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley is a large peninsula that forms the wilderness area known as the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. Within these 170,000 acres lie hiking trails, a living history farm, zones for off-roading adventures, and biking trails. The outdoor adventure opportunities in this area are nearly limitless! With trails that range from less than a mile to an astounding 65 miles (the North South Trail), there’s a distance in the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area for every hiker. For a moderate distance suitable for the whole family, try the Hermatite Lake Trail, a 2.2-mile loop that encircles Hermatite Lake, offering wildlife and water views along the way.
Those in search of an adrenaline rush will be drawn to the Turkey Bay OHV (Off-Highway Vehicle) Area, where 100 miles of trails await for exploration via Jeeps, ATVs, dirt bikes, or four-wheel drive vehicles. This is a great option for exploring the area’s diverse terrain, no matter the season of your visit!
Cyclists will also find this area great for adventuring. With both paved roads and rugged trails, both road bikers and mountain bikers are welcome. The Canal Loop, an 11-mile single-track loop, is perhaps the most popular mountain biking trail in the area, offering scenic views of Kentucky Lake, Lake Barkley, and the Canal along the way. Those who complete the entire 11-mile loop will be challenged with hills and creek crossings. With access to both lake’s shorelines, there are multiple opportunities for breaks and enjoying the views.
